This is a break up song (in case you couldn't tell ;) ). A song about an ex of mine where we built up a fantasy about each other over a long distance after having a lot of fun one summer a few years ago. Then when we were reunited on several occasions it was clear that what we had originally dreamt about each other was just that: a dream. My good friend and brother from another mother Kamal Simpson helped me write these lyrics, and he was perfect for the job because he saw my emotions change every step of the way. He penned the brilliant line "faces ain't so pretty when the paint begins to run", the perfect summary.
lyrics
I know you don’t get it… and neither do I though
Do I give you credit… for making my mind blow
You make me regret it, and waste my time so
I know you don’t get it… but maybe it’s impossible
I tried to stick with it, for the sake of a good time
‘cause I knew that soon the mood would move along
Can’t lie I did dig it when we played along the lines
You became a dizzy daydream and a craving in my mind
So with all that’s said and done
We both played and had our fun
But faces aint so pretty when the paint begins to run
So I gotta be free from ya, free from ya
But I just wanna please ya, I’m eager
And nothing’s making it easier to be with ya
And I just don’t wanna need ya, don’t need ya
… I thought that maybe you changed
… you thought exactly the same
… in fact it’s clear as day
… who we are and say we are are simply different things
You don't seem ta
You don't seem ta (You don't get it babe)
I don't either
I don't either (I don't get it)
You don't seem ta
You don't seem ta (You don't get it)
I don't either
I don't either
So with all that’s said and done
We both played and had our fun
But faces aint so pretty when the paint begins to run
So I gotta be free from ya, free from ya
But I just wanna please ya, I’m eager
And nothing’s making it easier to be with ya
And I just don’t wanna need ya, don’t need ya
