about

This is a song written by my Jazz pianist dad probably not long after I was born. He had recorded the song in the 90s and I loved the way the bassline works with the vocals so much that I just had to remake it. A lot of the songs I write about recently are about communication with loved ones and potential loved ones and my past frustrations with myself for not being much good at it! So this track is perfect as it's about two people who clearly like each other but keep their emotions to themselves. My dad wrote something that has really been relevant to me so I wanted to honour that by reproducing it. The bouncy feel to it shows that the excitement is still there though. They both know their feelings towards each other and want to shout it out loud, but perhaps both feel it's best left unsaid...

lyrics

Every time I catch your eye you smile, but you don’t really know
If you should either walk on by or stay and say a long hello
Baby, what’cha got to lose, if I could ever be so wrong?
Take a little chance and choose to find if we can turn each other on
Cos you can understand that maybe i’m a little shy
Wondering if I need some time but maybe I should question why
Girl if you could ever know this feeling that is on my mind
Maybe you would come on round maybe we could give this thing a try

The moment I saw your face
Your smile was the morning sun
I wanted your warm embrace
Baby, maybe you are the one

Girl, you never seem to walk - you dance your way across the floor
Could it be you’re the one romance that I’ve been looking for?
Baby if I only knew that you could ever want me too
I don’t know if I should laugh or cry because then wishes can come true
But I can’t tell the vibe or tell if there is something wrong
If I would be out of line i’ll slide right back where I belong
Do my feelings seem contrived if I tried to just let myself go
Maybe I’ll just swallow pride and fly on over just to let you know

The moment I saw your face
Your smile was the morning sun
I wanted your warm embrace
Baby, maybe you are the one

When I first saw
Your smile like the morning sun
I wanted you
Baby
Baby, maybe you are the one…
